Marking golf clubs

Permanent marker, engraving, tape, QR code – which method is best?

Why marking matters

Honest finders almost always return a personalized club. Unmarked clubs end up permanently in lost property. A simple mark dramatically increases the return rate – and takes 2 minutes.
How many lost clubs are returned?

Studies show personalized clubs are returned 3–4 times more often than unmarked ones.

Method 1: Permanent marker (simplest)

On the shaft (below the grip) or hosel: name + phone number or email. A waterproof permanent marker holds on steel and graphite. Protect with transparent tape.
Which pen works best on clubs?

Sharpie (permanent, weatherproof) on shaft. For dark surfaces, use a white paint marker (Posca or Edding 780).

Method 2: Engraving (most permanent)

Engraving on the hosel or head. Cost: €5–15 per club. Lasts forever, cannot be overwritten. Especially recommended for expensive putters and drivers.
Does engraving reduce resale value?

Minimally for standard clubs. For limited editions or tour models, engraving can reduce value.

Method 3: QR code tags (free from us – with instant alert)

The most modern method – and completely free at FindYourGolfClub: print personal QR tags for your bag, clubs and shafts in 2 minutes. Add your email address and the code becomes personal: when a finder scans the tag, you get an email INSTANTLY – no form, no matching needed. Your email stays invisible to the finder. For the stickers we recommend weatherproof PVC vinyl foil (e.g. Oracal) with a matte surface so the code doesn't reflect.

What do the FindYourGolfClub QR tags cost?

Nothing – the print sheet with bag tags, stickers and shaft strips is completely free. You print it yourself; for durable stickers all you need is weatherproof adhesive foil from any print or craft shop.

Does a sticker last long on a golf club?

On weatherproof PVC vinyl foil (e.g. Oracal, UV-resistant) stickers last 1–3 years on the shaft. On the grip they last less (sweat). A transparent protective laminate extends durability further.
